Natural Skincare for Itchy Skin, Eczema or Psoriasis.

Looking after your skin if it’s super sensitive, itchy or dry means ditching the irritants and loading up on natural nutrients.

What skincare works best for sensitive or eczema-prone skin?

Have you ever experienced an itchy reaction to a moisturiser, shampoo or face wash? It’s not uncommon for skincare and beauty products to contain ingredients which trigger irritation; synthetic fragrances, harsh preservatives, foaming agents or exfoliants can damage a fragile skin barrier and cause dryness or inflammation.

For those with eczema or psoriasis, finding effective skincare which is gentle on sensitive skin is key to living life more comfortably.

Balmonds: Redefining Natural Skincare

We’re committed to doing skincare differently. Our range is fragrance-free as standard, and we commit to providing products which are safe and effective for sensitive eczema-prone skin, leaving out problematic ingredients which can trigger flare-ups.

We’ve gathered some expert advice, top tips and eczema-friendly products to keep you and your skin happy, healthy & comfortable.

Using Emollients for Eczema.

“When your skin is dry it needs all the help it can get, so have your emollient everywhere – your bag, in the bathroom by the sink and by your bed. It’s helpful to have that visual reminder to apply it often.

The most effective way to apply an emollient is on damp skin. Your skin is like a sponge, so if it’s damp, it holds on to more moisture.

Skin Salvation works as a semi-occlusive balm with beeswax to lock in moisture and soothe irritation whilst letting the skin ‘breathe’. It contains hemp oil which is packed with fatty acids to help repair the skin barrier. Balm-like textures are deeply moisturising, but Skin Salvation isn’t greasy and easily melts into the skin. It’s no wonder it’s the ‘hero’ product in their extensive range.”

Flare Care: How To Cope When Your Skin Is Flaring.

Both eczema and psoriasis tend to come and go in flares - uncomfortable cycles of itchy, dry, and inflamed skin which can have a profound effect on self-confidence and quality of life.

When you’re in the middle of an intense flare it can feel like nothing will break the cycle of itching, scatching, skin damage and inflammation, but while chronic skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis aren’t curable, there are ways to make them a bit more manageable.

The aim of putting a flare care strategy in place is to make flare-ups shorter, less severe, and less frequent, so you can live your life as comfortably as possible.

  1. Identify your triggers: it can be a tricky process working out the culprit for a sudden flare but it’s worth the effort! See this article by allergy expert Ruth Holroyd for some great advice here on how to identify and avoid triggers.
  2. Support your barrier: if your skin barrier is impaired, it’ll need extra help to maintain its resilience and lock in vital moisture. A tried and tested emollient balm like Skin Salvation acts as an effective barrier against trans-epidermal water loss and external irritants, soothing and hydrating thirsty skin.
  3. Go back to basics: what works for one eczema sufferer might not do the trick for another, but it’s a good general rule of thumb to keep toiletries simple: use products free from sulphates, parabens, perfumes, and other known irritants.
  4. Feed your skin: pick moisturisers which are rich in essential fatty acids, which are often depleted in those living with eczema. You can boost your dietary EFA intake with omega-rich nuts, seed and fish, but you can also apply oils like Balmonds favourites, hemp seed, safflower and olive, direct to the skin via our balms, creams and oils. Think of them as long-term supplements for the skin!

Be more you.
